While each familiy's journey through the Special Care Nursery or the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is different, we know that all families appreciate some extra support during this time.
Featherweight Club support families while their baby is at Mercy Hospital for Women in a number of ways:
- Making their stay more comfortable by helping to maintain the Family Lounge and ensuring it is a welcoming space for all family members, including older siblings of the baby in hospital
- Commemorating certain special events (e.g., Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day and Christmas) by providing special gifts for parents
- Refurbishing and maintaining the Butterfly Room as an especially warm and welcoming place for parents to have private interviews with their baby's doctor or to spend time alone with their critically ill baby
- Furnishing the Terrace so that families can take a meal or coffee break in the fresh air and sunshine without moving too far from their baby during a visit
We know our efforts are appreciated through the feedback we receive from nurses and parents. Mums come back and tell us about the beautiful isolette cover that somebody went to the trouble of making and how they still have it many years later.
