Neonatal Services in Victoria
Neonatal services provide care for sick babies in the period immediately following their birth, including premature and low birth weight babies and babies born with congenital or other conditions which compromise their health or survival.  The neonatal service system in Victoria comprises four neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), 18 special care nurseries (SCNs) and the Newborn Emergency Transport Service (NETS).  This website provides information for parents who use neonatal services in Victoria as well as for the professionals who work within the system.  The Neonatal Services Advisory Committee (NSAC) was established in April 2000 to provide advice to the Minister for Health and the department on the delivery of Victoria's neonatal services.  A member of The Featherweight Club's Volunteer Committee also sits as a consumer representative on NSAC.  An example of TheFeatherweight Club representing the parent community and raising awareness of the needs of premature and sick babies and their families.

Northern Health
Northern Health operates an interdisciplinary screening, assessment and therapy service for infants, from birth to 24 months.  The service provides developmental screening and follow-up for newborns that have experienced difficulties at birth (i.e., prematurity, low birth weight, failure to thrive) and have increased chance for developmental difficulties appearing over the first few years of life.  Services are delivered at two of Northern Health's campuses, the PANCH Health Service - call 9485-9086 and ask for the Team Leader of the Paediatric Service - and the Craigieburn Health Service, which offers a variety of Children's Services, including a Developmental Service that operates on similar guidelines to the Paediatric Service at PANCH.

Parenting SA
Parenting SA is an initiative of the Government of South Australia established in 1996 to promote the value of parents and the important role of parenting.  It is funded through the Community Development Fund from gambling revenue raised in South Australia.  Parenting is powerful - it is not just about parents; it is shared by grandparents, relatives, friends and those who care for children.  To shape and influence a child's life is one of the most important things one can do.
